Memorial Day in the United States is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of our great country.  It is observed on the last Monday in May and we at Shirt Pickle wanted to offer our own t-shirt tribute to those honored dead that gave the last full measure of devotion to their country and to our way of life.

Our tribute is this, our 1st Annual Memorial Day T-shirt Design.  It was important to us to have a completely original design that would be available exclusively at  We were fortunate to find an immensely talented artist named George Petsov who helped us turn our vision into a design that we are all very proud of.

The poppies are a design element that we wanted to be prominent as they have long been associated with Memorial Day.  It originates from the poem “In Flanders Fields” written by John McCrae.  The poem refers to the poppies that grew near the Eropean battlefields of the First World War.  In 1915 Monia Michael, inspired by the poem published a reply called “We Shall Keep the Faith” in which she wrote:

“We cherish too, the Poppy red

That Grows on fields where valor led,

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heroes never dies.”

The inspiration for the poppies in our design comes from Claude Monet’s famous painting, Poppies, Near Argenteui. We hope you wear this shirt with pride and help us to honor those who have laid down their life for their country.

All gave some, some gave all.
